Dhanusha. The Jhulonotsav (Jhula) festival has begun in Mithilanchal from today. Jhulonotsav, which starts from the third day of the waxing moon in the month of Shravan, continues until the full moon. In Jhulonotsav, a tradition of placing idols of deities including Ram-Sita on a decorated throne built in the temple premises and swinging them has been prevalent.
Chhote Mahanta Ramroshan Das Vaishnav of Janaki Temple stated that according to mythology, the Jhulonotsav, known as a cultural festival of Mithila, began from the inception of the saint tradition. Based on the popular belief that saints used to stay in open courtyards or under the shade of trees, place the Shaligram brought in their bags on an altar and swing it, the Jhula festival is still viewed with great importance in Mithila.
