Biratnagar. Tension has arisen over the 'search' operation conducted by the security forces at the District Jail Morang on Monday morning. Inmates in 'B Block' of the jail located in Haatkhola, Biratnagar-8, have become agitated, protesting against the administration. They have climbed onto the roof of the building and are chanting slogans demanding an end to economic and mental exploitation within the jail. Based on special information received by the security forces, a large-scale search operation was launched early Monday morning to find illegal items, including drugs, inside the jail. The operation was carried out by a team of the District Security Committee, including Morang's Chief District Officer Yuvraj Kattel and the Chief of the District Police Office Morang, Superintendent of Police (SP) Kavita Katuwal, with a large number of security personnel deployed. Responding to the incident, SP Katuwal stated that this was merely a regular security procedure. He said, 'Searches are conducted from time to time inside the jail keeping in mind the security sensitivities; this is just a continuation of that regular procedure.' During the search, the administration was preparing to transfer some suspicious inmates elsewhere. However, this process has been halted for the time being due to strong protest and obstruction from the inmates. Following the inmates' agitation, the security arrangements in the jail area have been made extremely tight. A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed Police Force has surrounded the jail from all sides and is providing security.
