350 Aid Workers Killed Globally in 2025, UN Reports

Kathmandu. 350 aid workers were killed worldwide in 2025, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has reported. According to OCHA, 350 aid workers were killed worldwide, with the highest numbers in Gaza and Sudan. The United Nations called attacks on humanitarians 'unacceptable' on Monday. This death toll is slightly lower than the 377 in 2024. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) provided this information on the occasion of World Humanitarian Day, citing data from the research and advisory group Humanitarian Outcomes. Last year, 186 aid workers were killed in Gaza, the highest number. This has been the deadliest place for aid workers for the third consecutive year. After that, 71 aid workers died in Sudan. 'More than a thousand aid workers have been killed in just three years, and this is completely unacceptable,' said Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher in a statement. He said, 'Pointing this out will not ensure the safety of another aid worker. States must comply with international humanitarian law and use every means to protect civilians and our colleagues. Those who break the rules must be held legally accountable.' Since the beginning of 2026, an additional 82 aid workers have been killed, 97 injured, and 39 abducted worldwide. OCHA has expressed particular concern about the widespread use of armed drones. Drones are 'putting explosive weapons into the hands of more people and sending them into cities and towns.' In Sudan, armed drones accounted for 80 percent of civilian deaths in the first four months of 2026, attacking markets and health facilities, the statement said. It was also mentioned that there were casualties from drone attacks in the Russia-Ukraine war. 'Armed drones have become a new form of threat, becoming intentional or negligent destruction of civilian life,' Fletcher said.
