Biratnagar. As the Koshi Province government approaches its 9th anniversary, the representation of women in the executive branch holding power has been weak. However, in this latest cabinet expansion, the Nepali Communist Party has included three women among the 4 ministers and 1 state minister allocated to its share. Two ministers and one state minister have been represented by women from that party.
In the 9-year period of Koshi Province, 6 chief ministers and 72 ministers have been appointed. Women's participation has been limited to only 16.66 percent, or 13 individuals. Although the constitution guarantees 33 percent women's participation in all state bodies, political parties seem to have completely disregarded this constitutional spirit of inclusivity in Koshi's 9-year practice.
