Kathmandu. Only four out of ten healthcare service institutions worldwide meet the basic sanitation standards required for patients and healthcare workers. According to a report released by the United Nations' World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF on Tuesday, 11 percent of healthcare facilities globally lack even basic sanitation services.
The WHO and UNICEF report has measured the global status of basic sanitation services in healthcare facilities for the first time. In an estimate for the year 2025, only 40 percent of healthcare facilities were found to have accessible and usable toilets that meet the needs of patients and staff.
