Surgeons Remove 3.1 Kg Bladder Stone in Sri Lanka, Potentially New World Record

Colombo. Sri Lankan doctors have surgically removed a massive 3.1 kg stone from the bladder of a 55-year-old man. Doctors claim this could be the largest bladder stone ever removed surgically, based on available records. The surgery was performed last week at Trincomalee General Hospital in the eastern part of Sri Lanka. The man, who was undergoing treatment for a stroke at the hospital, experienced difficulty urinating, leading to further tests that revealed a large stone in his bladder. According to Dr. Pahalathan Balakrishnan, who led the surgery, the removed stone weighed 3.1 kg and was approximately 17 cm long. Doctors stated its size was comparable to an ostrich egg and its weight was similar to that of a full-term newborn baby. "According to available records, this is the largest bladder stone documented and surgically removed to date," said Dr. Balakrishnan. He added that the patient's health condition is currently "very good." He remains in the hospital, continuing treatment for his stroke and other health issues.
