BANGUI. At least 30 people have died when a small-scale gold mine collapsed in the western region of the Central African Republic, near the border with Cameroon. According to officials, rescue operations are ongoing after the accident on Tuesday, and it is suspected that some people are still buried in the debris.
According to Cameroonian media, the accident occurred in Jamboie village, a few kilometers from the city of Garoua-Boulaï in the eastern region of Cameroon. Suleiman B, Deputy Mayor of Nana-Mambéré Prefecture, said on Wednesday that rescuers and local residents had recovered 30 bodies from the mine after a few hours of effort. He informed that the injured mine workers are undergoing treatment.
