Makwanpur. As the process of forming a new government in Bagmati Province reaches its final stage, a dispute within the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has brought the appointment of UML leader Kiran Thapa Magar as Chief Minister to the center of legal and political debate.
Under Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, Kiran Thapa has staked his claim for Chief Minister with the signatures of 63 provincial assembly members, supported by CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Centre), and RPP, presented to Province Chief Deepak Prasad Devkota. However, with a dispute arising within the party itself regarding the legality of the RPP's support, the final decision rests with the constitutional discretion of the Province Chief.
