Bangladesh Presidential Election Sees Competition After 35 Years

Dhaka. For the first time in 35 years, a competitive presidential election is being held in Bangladesh. Members of Parliament will vote in the Parliament building on Thursday to elect the country's 23rd president. The candidate of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and the candidate of the 11-party alliance led by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, retired Colonel Oli Ahmed, are competing.< /p>

A total of 349 Members of Parliament will be able to vote in the election. Voting will take place from 2 PM to 5 PM in the main hall of the Parliament. The counting of votes will begin immediately after the voting ends, and the Chief Election Commissioner and Returning Officer will announce the results.
