301 Deaths from Snakebites in Nepal Over Past Decade

Kathmandu. In the last 10 years, 301 people have died from snakebites. From 2073 to the end of Asar 2083, 301 people died due to snakebites. In this period, 1678 cases of snakebite occurred across the country. Among these, 1401 people were injured and 301 lost their lives. Of the deceased, 42 percent were women and about 22 percent were children.

According to the 'National Action Plan for Preparedness and Response on Snakebite Prevention and Control 2083', delays in reaching treatment centers, treatment based on faith healing and superstition, limited availability of antivenom, lack of skilled health manpower, and delays in emergency rescue services are still causing high mortality and disability from snakebites.
