TikTok Agrees to Pay $400 Million to Settle US Children's Privacy Lawsuit

San Francisco. Social media platform TikTok has agreed to pay US$400 million to settle a lawsuit in the United States over alleged violations of children's privacy. This is one of the largest fines and settlements in the US regarding children's online privacy issues.

In a lawsuit filed by the US Department of Justice during former President Joe Biden's tenure in 2024, TikTok and its parent company ByteDance were accused of collecting 'large amounts of personal data' of millions of users under the age of 13.
