Law Minister Addresses Child Murder, Forms Committee for Justice Reform

Kathmandu. Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sobita Gautam has said that the incident of murder after the rape of a three-year-old girl, Garima, has raised serious questions about the consciousness of the state and society. Issuing a long message through social media, she informed that the 'Garima Justice Resolution Committee' has been formed to review the punishment in heinous criminal incidents.

According to Minister Gautam, a 7-member committee has been formed to remove weaknesses in the existing legal provisions regarding heinous criminal incidents and to suggest strict penalties. This committee, tasked with submitting its report within seven days, will prepare the basis for legislation that addresses the expectations of the citizens. The ministry took this decision after meeting with the parents of the deceased girl yesterday evening.
