Canada Announces Retaliatory Tariffs on US Imports

Ottawa. After the United States imposed a 50 percent tariff on approximately $20 billion worth of goods imported from Canada, Canada has also announced that it will impose 'dollar for dollar' tariffs in retaliation. The tariff imposed by the US, which was postponed for three days after the failure of trade agreement efforts with Canada, came into effect on Saturday.

In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that he would impose retaliatory tariffs at the same rate on various goods imported from the United States, doing 'tit for tat'. Canada's new tariffs will come into effect from September 8. It has been informed that this will apply to goods including steel, dairy products, electrical and household appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, and electronics.
