New Zealand Proposes Law to Ban Social Media for Under-16s

Kathmandu. The New Zealand government has advanced a law to ban children under 16 from using social media such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and Snapchat. The government has proposed a strict age limit, citing the impact of social media on children's mental health, sleep, family life, and education.

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon stated that the growing influence of social media on children is unacceptable. According to him, one in three children aged 13 to 17 spends at least five hours a day on social media. He added that social media puts them at risk of harmful content, addictive technology, and mental pressure.
