Government Prepares to Reduce Electricity Tariff Amidst VAT Criticism

Kathmandu. Amidst widespread criticism over the Value Added Tax (VAT) imposed on electricity tariffs, the government is preparing to reduce the tariffs.

For this, on July 29, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, formed an Electricity Tariff Rate Review Committee under the convenorship of Anshukiran Shahi, a member of the Nepal Electricity Authority's Board of Directors. Although the committee was given a time limit of 15 days, its mandate expired on August 12. However, the committee has not yet been able to submit a report or suggestions to the Authority and the Ministry.
