MP Khushbu Oli Demands End to Statute of Limitations for Rape Cases and Death Penalty

Kathmandu. Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) MP Khushbu Oli has stated that the statute of limitations should not be an obstacle in the path of obtaining justice for heinous crimes like rape. In the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, she argued that the door to justice should not be closed just because the victim was late in knocking.

Oli said that the debate should not be limited to how many years rapists should be jailed. "Is today's debate not about how many years rapists should be jailed? Why not have a death penalty for such heinous crimes?" she said. Citing that Nepal's constitution and international protocols prohibit the death penalty, she questioned, "Can any protocol be greater than the life of a Nepali daughter? India did not need such a protocol; if there is a death penalty system there, why can't we?"
