Asian Games: Nepal’s long medal journey and the elusive gold

Nepal has been part of the Asian Games journey since the inaugural edition in New Delhi in 1951. Seventy-five years later, the country is preparing for its 20th appearance at Asia’s biggest multi-sport event, still chasing a first gold medal.

From the first Asian Games in 1951 to the 19th edition in Hangzhou, China, in 2023, Nepal has competed in 17 editions. The country missed the 1954 and 1962 Games but has otherwise maintained a regular presence at the continental event.
