MPs Urge Government to Set Minimum Wage for Foreign Employment and Monitor Outsourcing

Kathmandu. Members of Parliament have drawn the government's attention to setting a minimum wage for Nepali workers going for foreign employment and effectively monitoring the outsourcing sector. They drew attention to this matter while speaking at a meeting of the Industry, Commerce and Consumer Interest Protection Committee of the House of Representatives held at Singha Durbar on Tuesday.

Speaking at the meeting, CPN (UML) MP Khitij Thebe said that the government should make a decision not to send Nepali workers to Kuwait for less than a minimum wage of 150 KD. He stated that the wage should be set in a way that resolves the labor conditions and the problems faced by the workers. MP Thebe mentioned that the Minister of Labour himself should visit the concerned country with a team to solve the problems of domestic workers in foreign employment.
