Flash Flood Causes Major Damage to Hydropower Sector in Rasuwa

Kathmandu. An accidental flood in Rasuwa district has caused great damage to the hydropower sector. According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, it has informed that major hydropower projects and transmission lines in Rasuwa have been severely damaged due to the flood and power supply has been disrupted. According to the authority, the flood has caused great physical damage to the production, transmission and distribution structures in Rasuwa. The authority estimates that the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project, Chilime Hydropower Center, Trishuli 3A and Trishuli 3B Hub 220 KV Substation and Trishuli and Devighat Hydropower Centers have suffered great damage due to the flood. With the damage to the hydropower projects and transmission line structures, the electricity production and transmission from those areas have completely stopped. The authority has made a preliminary estimate that the flood has caused irreparable damage to the structures of electricity along with houses, roads, bridges and other physical infrastructures. The authority has requested all parties to be immediately and effectively mobilized for the search, rescue and relief of the security personnel, public servants and general public who have gone missing and affected by the flood. The authority has urged the employees and general public in the river and stream vicinity, coastal areas and risk-prone areas to exercise high vigilance and relocate to safe places, stating that the risk of flood may still persist. Everyone has also been requested not to follow unconfirmed news and rumors other than official information. The authority has apologized for the inconvenience caused to the consumers due to the disruption of electricity supply. The authority has expressed its commitment to make every possible effort to normalize the disrupted power supply and has urged customers to be patient until the repair and restoration is completed.
