Devastating Flood from Tibet Causes Major Damage to Trishuli River Basin

Kathmandu. A devastating flood originating from the Tibet region and entering the Trishuli River this morning has caused significant damage to the lower riparian areas. Detailed information regarding the actual cause of the flood and the extent of the damage is being collected.

According to Nitesh Khadka, a researcher of glacial and flood risks working at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, based on preliminary discussions with Chinese colleagues, it is estimated that a large ice avalanche occurred on the Tibetan side of the Nepal-China border, potentially blocking the river.
