Abhishek Giri Rearrested by CIB for Fraud and Criminal Breach of Trust

Kathmandu. Abhishek Giri, who was released on bail by the court in the case of extortion from prisoners of Morang Jail, has been re-arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) for investigation. He was arrested on Asar 24 and brought to Kathmandu. Giri, who emerged from a gangster background, was recently affiliated with the Nepali Congress. He was released from prison on Chaitra 5, 2079, after serving 9 years for kidnapping and hostage-taking.

Shrestha Construction Company is one of Nepal's oldest construction companies. The CIB is investigating Abhishek for fraud and criminal breach of trust against Subash Shrestha, the operator of Shrestha Construction. The Bureau is investigating 4 disputes between Abhishek and Subash. It is alleged that Abhishek caused financial loss to Shrestha Construction by assuring to arrange contracts based on influence and then saying he would do the work through his own company. Shrestha Construction had secured an 838.9 million contract for a 6-kilometer section of the Hulasi road from Biratnagar Hatkhola to Rangeli.
