Iran-US Military Tensions Escalate, Threatening Global Oil Supply

With renewed military tensions between Iran and the United States, the risk of further expansion of war in the Middle East and serious impact on global oil and trade supplies through the Strait of Hormuz has increased. The United States has claimed to have carried out a major attack on Iranian targets, while Iran has warned of adopting a 'new strategy' to deal with war, diplomacy, and economic blockade.

President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the US military had carried out a 'very heavy attack' on Iranian targets overnight and was ready to attack again at any time if necessary. He also suggested that the Strait of Hormuz should be renamed 'Trump Strait'. Although he claimed that the waterway was currently under US control, he later indicated that his statement was not serious.
