Congress Leader Angdembe Questions Police Firing in Madhesi Districts

Kathmandu. Chief opposition party Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party leader Bhishma Raj Angdembe has questioned why the police had to open fire, resulting in the death of citizens, in the incidents of religious tension in Sunsari and other Madhesi districts. Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Tuesday, leader Angdembe demanded a satisfactory answer from the government regarding the incident. He also demanded that the government take responsibility for the incident. Wishing speedy recovery to the injured, he drew the government's attention to ascertain the damage and arrange for appropriate compensation. Furthermore, he demanded the formation of a judicial inquiry committee to conduct a truthful, impartial, and reliable investigation into the incident. He also criticized the government for working at a slow pace in disaster preparedness and response. Speaking in the meeting, he said, 'Our serious attention has been drawn to the incidents in districts like Sunsari, Siraha, Parsa, and Dhanusha, and why the government had to open fire, resulting in the death of citizens.' He added, 'The government must give a satisfactory answer regarding this and take responsibility for the incident.' Expressing condolences to those who lost their lives in the incident, he said, 'Along with heartfelt condolences to those who lost their lives in the incident, I express deep sympathy to the bereaved families.' Wishing speedy recovery to the injured, he drew the government's attention through the Speaker to ascertain the damage and arrange for compensation. He clearly stated the demand for the formation of a judicial inquiry committee to conduct a truthful, impartial, and reliable investigation into the incident. Four people died and dozens were injured in the firing by the police while trying to quell the communal and religious tension that arose in Terai districts including Sunsari and Siraha.
