KATHMANDU: JAN. 5 – Students of Valmeeki Vidyapeeth (Valmiki Campus) have been given marks without taking an experimental test after the telescope broke down. Undergraduate and postgraduate students of astronomy are not allowed to use the observatory’s telescope, but they get 20 marks in the annual examination for free.

Dr. Jayant Acharya, an associate professor of astronomy at the university, complained that the students were never given such an opportunity to take an experimental test using a telescope.

According to him, the telescope has been shifted to a lower room as the place where the telescope is kept is getting dilapidated. As it contains dust, it is covered with cloth. “We only teach students from a distance that how it works,” he said.

The use of telescopes is essential for teaching astronomy. The observatory, which used to house the telescope, has an iron dome. The sky appears when the nearby dome opens the dome. Since the dome has not been opened for a long time, it has become ‘jammed’. “Even the dome will not be closed now. The observatory is submerged when it rains. The water comes down to the room, ”said Dr. Acharya. He said the telescope had been stalled for more than two decades, adding that no one cared about the budget.

Prof. Bhagwat Dhakal, principal of Valmeeki Vidyapeeth at Pradarshani Marg, said that he entered the service in 2056 BS. The budget for the maintenance of the observatory was not given by the university in the past, but not this time. Due to a lack of funds, we are looking for donors for the maintenance of the observatory. We have not been able to find it. ”
