Rasuwa Flood Highlights Himalayan Climate Crisis and Global Justice Debate

Kathmandu. The devastating flood in Rasuwa, a border area between Nepal and China, initially appeared as a local disaster. The sudden surge in the Bhote Koshi (Trishuli) river caused significant damage to settlements, roads, bridges, hydropower structures, and cross-border movement. People went missing, rescue efforts were difficult, and in a short time, this incident turned into a serious humanitarian crisis on the Nepal-China border.

However, the incident did not stop at that point in the eyes of international media. International media, especially Al Jazeera, expanded the Rasuwa disaster from a news event to a debate on the Himalayan climate crisis, the instability of glaciers and high Himalayan terrain, cross-border disaster risks, early warning systems, and ultimately, climate justice.
