Background:
Accurate daily weather forecasts would not be possible without the data gathered by the World Meteorological Organization every day. The World Meteorological Organization is essential to promoting public welfare and safety. Its efforts are crucial for ensuring transport, water resources, and food security. The meteorological information enables us to monitor climate change, schedule our entire days, and receive disaster alerts. We can foresee large storms thanks to the WMO, giving these people adequate time to escape or make the required storm preparations.
Inception:
The first World Meteorological Day was officially held on 23 March 1961.
In 1873, the International Meteorological Organization was established in Vienna, Austria, which aimed to establish meteorological station networks and improve weather forecasts.
2023 theme: “The Future of Weather, Climate and Water across Generations.”
Objectives:
The World Meteorological Day is annually held on March 23 to remember the establishment of World Meteorological Organization on that date in 1950. The day also highlights the contribution of meteorological and hydrological services to the safety and well-being of human societies.
Best wishes on this day.
