SASANE successfully organized a peaceful rally with a motto “TAX FREE PAD in Nepal” with over 421 participants. The rally was organized to grab attention of Government of Nepal and general Nepalese on this issue which is often ignored and always on the unconscious mind. Samrakshak Samuha Nepal (SASANE) is an organization driven by the power of survivors of human trafficking that envisions a world where no one is exploited for sex trade, forced labor, or domestic servitude. These survivors will take back the streets with support from general organizational members, social activists and media representatives on 8thMarch, 2021 (Monday).
During the event survivors from the group of participants handed-over an appeal letter to Honorable Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli in the Prime Minister’s Office requesting to make the sanitary pads tax free in Nepal.
Simialrly, SASANE Inaugurated Nepal’s First PAD BANK in Nepal at Kathmandu Metropolitan City Office at Sundhara. A special booth has been created where the sanitary pads will be distributed free of cost to the needy with request. The passer-by will become conscious with the distribution of free pads and engage in the campaign.
Menstruation is not a choice for girls and women and menstrual hygiene products are not a luxury. Tax exemption on sanitary pads is a very small step towards a long journey of making safe menstrual hygiene accessible to all women and girls. Hence, we would like to call for the helping hands from the nation and international forum to make the Pad Bank successful at its best.
