Let's travel back to 1969BS, about 108 years ago from today, Siddhicharan Shrestha, the great poet of Nepali literature, was born in Okhaldhunga, a city of eastern Nepal. Every year on the day of Jeshtha Shukla Panchami, the birth anniversary of Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha is celebrated.

बि सं १९६९ मा लान चाह्यौं आज, पूर्वी नेपालको ओखलढुगां मा । लगभग आजभन्दा १०६ वर्षअघि नेपाली साहित्यका मुर्धन्य व्यक्ति युगकवि सिद्धिचरण श्रेष्ठको जन्म भएको हो । हरेक वर्ष जेष्ठ शुक्ल पञ्चमीका दिनमा युगकवि सिद्धिचरण श्रेष्ठको जन्मजयन्ती मनाउने गरिन्छ, हुन त गतेका हिसाबले जेष्ठ ९ मा युगकवि को जन्मजयन्ती पर्ने हो तर यसवर्षको मलमासका कारणले तिथी सरेर असार ४ मा पर्न गएको छ ।

Kathmandu valley annually commemorates the chariot festival (Jatra) on the glory of Yogi Matseyanandrnath since 1600 years and even more. Akshaya Tritiya falls in the Tritiya Tithi of Sukla Paksha of Baishakha month, Baisakha translates to a churning stick, every festival which falls in this month advocates for the purity and spiritual awakening. Akshaya means something that is beyond the process of eroding, which cannot be destructed, results of the activities performed in this day do not diminish, and good works commenced on this day will summon manifold divine results.

The word Kiratan is used in Yerjuveda and Sanskrit this word means very cheerful and in simple words attractive and good people. In this sense, Kirant community and culture of these knights, hunters, nature lovers and good people is a matter of pride.

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ । यस कारणले हरेक महिनाको त्रयोदशीमा भगवान् शिवको स्मरण गर्दै प्रदोष व्रत लिइन्छ।

Today marks world malaria day, every year on the 25th of April this day is celebrated. This year World Health Organization promotes the "Zero malaria starts with me" campaign and calls for individual solidarity for community and global protection against malaria.

Birth of Mahavira Mahavir Jayanti celebrates the birth of Mahavira, a contemporary of Lord Budhha (Lived in 6 century BCE), and the final or 24th Tirthankara (great scholar and sages). Mahavira's name was Vardhamana and is considered to be the founder of Jainism but today I will try not to confine Mahavira's identity just to Jainism but to elaborate his contribution to the entire human race and mankind will be my pursuit.

Rhyme Day is being celebrated today by programs related to the conservation of rhymes and their usage in the poetry genre of literature. Expressing concern over the declining use of rhymer verses in poetry literature, poet Madhav Viyogi commenced national rhyme day on 20th April 1996 as a campaign of protecting rhyme (Chanda Bachau Aviyana.) Chhanda is the Nepali and Sanskrit translation of rhyme. The verse is mentioned in the Rig Veda. Regulation of prose writing is done by grammar while the regulator of poetry is rhythm.

जब कवितामा मात्रा अथवा वर्णहरूको सङ्ख्या, विराम, गति, गेयहरू नियमसंगत रूपमा मिल्दछ, तब छन्दात्मक रचना तयार हुन्छ । छन्दलाई पद्य लेखन अथवा वृत्त भनिन्छ । छन्द भनेको लय हो । सामान्य भाषामा छन्द लय मिलाएर कृति लेख्ने वा वाचन गर्ने तरिका हो ।

Ekadashi, which dates to the Chaitra Shukla Ekadashi (11th day of the waxing moon), is called Kamada Ekadashi. On this day, it is a religious belief to get fruits according to the wishes of people who are purely devout.

युधिष्ठिरको प्रश्न सुनेपछि भगवान् कृष्ण भन्नुहुन्छ, ‘एक दिन रत्नपुर नामको सुन्दर ठाउँ जहाँ एउटा विशाल सुनको महल थियो । त्यही ठाउँमा एउटा नाग लोक थियो, जहाँ भयङ्कर नागहरू बस्दथे । त्यो सुनको महलमा त्यस बेला क्रूर पुण्डरीक नामक राजाले राज गर्थे ।

In 1982, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) established April 18 as International Day For Monuments and Sites, after which UNESCO adopted the day at its 22nd General Assembly. On the one hand, this year's farewell is on the edge as Chaitey Dashain knocks, and on the other hand, the New Year's roan is hitting the bell. Dashain, the great festival of Nepali people and a festival carrying cultural significance famous as Navratri. This Chaitey Dashain is a reflection of the main Dashain that occurs during Asoj, Kartik of Bikram Sambat calendar. According to the myths, in the past, the main Dashain used to fall in Chait but due to the dry seasons and frequently occurring droughts later Dashain was shifted to Asoj Kartik (Middle of the year).

यो चैते दसैँ पनि असोज–कार्तिकमा आउने मुख्य दसैँको एउटा प्रतिबिम्ब चाड हो । पुराना कथनहरूका अनुसार, पहिले–पहिले मुख्य दसैँ चैतमा पर्ने गर्दथ्यो।तर उक्त समयमा सुख्खा भएर खडेरी पर्ने, मौसम बदली साथै दसैँको गरिष्ठ भोजन अनि हिँडडुलले धेरै जना बिरामी परेपछि दसैँलाई वर्षको मध्यमा सारिएको मान्यता छ । जे होस् जसो होस्, चैते दसैँको रौनक पनि कम छैन । चैते दसैँलाई कतिपय ठाउँमा सानो दसैँ भन्ने चलन पनि छ । भारत, बङ्गलादेश अनि म्यानमारमा चैते नवरात्रि भन्ने चलन पनि छ ।

Art has always been a powerful medium for expression and exploration of emotions. It is for this reason that World Art Day is celebrated every year on 15th April to promote art and culture. Also, on this day, work is done to raise awareness about various arts among the general public.

Following the pathway of Sanatan culture when we dig into the creation of this universe and world, it resembles the first avatar of Lord Vishnu which was the fish. This fish avatar is known as Matsya avatar, this resembles the theory of evolution by Darwin where he states the evolution journey from the unicellular creature, aquatic reformation till today's form of manhood. Matsya Avataar during the Satya Yuga (Initial Yuga of Sanatana era), Matsya appeared during the apocalyptic phase and this fish was a one-horned fish with immense power.

धर्मलाई विज्ञानसँग जोड्ने एउटा सूत्र मत्स्य नारायण अवतारको वर्णनले दिन्छन् । मत्स्य अवतार भगवान् विष्णुको प्रथम अवतार मानिन्छ । म यहाँनेर चाल्र्स डार्विनको ‘इभ्याल्यूशन थ्यौरी’लाई मत्स्य अवतारसँग जोडेर व्याख्या गर्ने जमर्का गर्छु ।

International Day of Human Space Flight is celebrated on April 12th each year to commemorate the anniversary of the first human space flight, which was accomplished by Yuri Gagarin of the Soviet Union on April 12, 1961. This day was declared by the United Nations General Assembly on April 7, 2011, to celebrate the beginning of the space era for humankind and to promote the exploration and use of outer space for peaceful purposes.

आज भन्दा लगभग ६२ वर्ष अगाडिको हो । अन्तरिक्ष यात्री यूरी गागरीन सन् १९६१ मा भोस्तोक १ नामक अन्तरिक्ष विमानमा बसेर पृथ्वीको अर्विटमा १०८ मिनट एक चक्कर लगाउन सफल भएका थिए । यही दिनले सबै मानवताको हितका लागि अन्तरिक्ष अन्वेषणको लागि मार्ग खुला पारेको थियो। सन् २०११ को अप्रिल ७ को संयुक्त राष्ट्र सङ्घको महासभाको ६५औँ संस्करणले हरेक वर्ष अप्रिल १२ लाई अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय मानव अन्तरिक्ष विमान दिवसका रूपमा मनाउने निर्णय सदर गरेको हो ।

In the history of human civilization such as horses, horseback riding, horse riding knights, the cooperation between horses and human beings has been continuously explained in various documents of history and various stories about this relationship are still alive. Horses have always been and still are the classic and traditional ways of human mobility. From Europe, America, Middle East Asia to the invention of trains and vehicles around the world, horses were the only reliable and fastest way to ride. Be it ancient Mahavarata or the conqueror's conquests, horses and horse riders were the primary intervention of war strategy.

घोडा, घोडचढी, घोडसवार, यात्रा, अनि युद्धजस्ता मानव सभ्यताको इतिहासमा घोडा र मानवबिचको सहकार्य निरन्तर छ । इतिहासका अनेकन् दस्ताबेजहरूमा निरन्तर व्याख्या गरिएकै छ । अझ यो सम्बन्धबारे अनेकन् किसिमका कथा–किस्साहरू पनि जीवितै छन् । युरोप, अमेरिका, मध्य पूर्वी एसियादेखि लिएर संसारभर गाडीहरूको आविष्कार नहुँदा घोडा भरपर्दो र छिटो सवारीको माध्यम थियो ।

"Paha" means guest and "Chahre" means Chaturdashi. This day is also called "Pishach Chaturdashi". There is an ancient tradition of celebrating the Chartudashi of Chaitra Krishna Paksha with joy and excitement in Newa civilization.

विश्व स्वास्थ्य दिवस हरेक वर्ष अप्रिल ७ मा मनाइने विश्वव्यापी स्वास्थ्य सचेतना दिवस हो । सन् १९४८ मा विश्व स्वास्थ्य सङ्गठन को स्थापना भएको दिन र विश्वभरका मानिसहरूले सामना गरिरहेका महत्त्वपूर्ण स्वास्थ्य समस्याहरूको बारेमा चेतना जगाउन यो दिवस मनाइन्छ। सन् १९४८ मा विश्व स्वास्थ्य सङ्गठनले पहिलो विश्व स्वास्थ्य सम्मेलन आयोजना गरेको थियो । सभाले सन् १९५० देखि लागू हुने गरी प्रत्येक वर्षको अप्रिल ७ लाई विश्व स्वास्थ्य दिवसका रूपमा मनाउने निर्णय गरेको थियो ।

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ । यस कारणले हरेक महिनाको त्रयोदशीमा भगवान् शिवको स्मरण गर्दै प्रदोष व्रत लिइन्छ। शनिबारका दिन प्रदोष व्रत परेकाले शनि प्रदोष व्रत भनिएको हो ।

Every lunar month has two Pakshas and each Paksha has an Ekadashi. Thus, in the Ekadashis of Krishnapaksha and Shuklapaksha, the eternal devotees worship Hari. Shri Hari can be understood as the guardian of the universe, the creator of the universe, and the omnipresent power as the components of creation.

चन्द्र मासमा दुई पक्षहरू हुन्छन् । हरेक पक्षमा एउटा एकादशी पर्छन् । यसरी कृष्णपक्ष र शुक्ल पक्षमा पर्ने एकादशीहरूमा सनातन भक्तजनले हरिको आराधना गर्छन् । श्रीहरिलाई जगतका पालन हार, सृष्टिका सर्जक अनि सिर्जनाका अवयवहरूका रूपमा सर्वव्यापी शक्तिका रूपमा बुझ्न सकिन्छ । यी सर्व शक्तिलाई धर्म या दर्शनभन्दा पर राखेर सृष्टिको साना–साना अवयवदेखि ठुला–ठुला खटनसम्मका तत्त्वका रूपमा चिन्न जरुरी रहन्छ । पृथ्वीमा जीवहरूको अस्तित्व अनि आत्मा तत्त्वको परमात्मा तत्त्वद्वारा संरक्षण यिनै हरि रुपी शक्तिले गरिएको मानिन्छ ।

The practice of fasting for spiritual fruits on this day is unique.In Bhaumashtami fast, especially worship of Mars and planetary peace is also done. There are many fruits of worshiping Shakti on the eighth day. There is a tradition of worshiping and adoring Gorakhkali Bhagwati in Bhaumashtami, especially in the temple of Bhagwati Gorakhkali in Gorkha.This asthami is also known as Shitalashtami and people fast on this reverence too.

Gauri is worshiped on the day of Chaitra Shukla Tritiya. Both married women and unmarried or even single women observe this fast with the desire to have a long conjugal life and marital happiness. This fast is also called Gangaur fast and it is also called Gauri Tritiya, Saubhagya Gauri fast, and Gauri Puja.

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ । यस कारणले हरेक महिनाको त्रयोदशीमा भगवान् शिवको स्मरण गर्दै प्रदोष व्रत लिइन्छ।

तमु भन्नाले गुरुङ्ग समुदायलाई चिनाउँदछ भने ल्होसार भन्नाले नयाँ वर्ष भन्ने अर्थ लाग्दछ । शाब्दिक रुपमै प्रष्ट छ, आज गुरुङ्ग समूदायको नयाँ वर्ष हो । चाईनीज ज्योतिषशास्त्र र पात्रो अनुसार बर्षमा १२ महिना हुन्छन् र हरेक महिनाहरु जनावरको आधारमा नामांकृत हुन्छन् । तिव्वति बोद्धार्गी अनि तिव्बतो बर्मेली समुदायमा ३ बर्षभरि प्रकारको ल्होसार मनाउने चलन छ । यी ल्होसारहरुमा तमु या तालो ल्होसार, सोनाम ल्होसार अनि ग्याल्बो ल्होसार पर्दछन् । यसपटक तमु गुरुङ समुदायले ’हि ल्हो’ (बिरालो वर्ग) को बिदाइ गर्दै गिद्ध (मि-ल्हो) को स्वागत गरेर भव्य रूपमा मनाउने छन् ।

Budhaastami brings several dimension and devotion, Lord Shiva and Parwati are especially worshiped and prayed in this day, and people observe fasting and visit temples. According to the Sanatan legend, it is believed that one who observes this day of Budhaastami, never goes to hell, after death. Observers also seek divine blessings with prosperity for wellbeing in their lives.

Whatever the anecdote is, Dashain has finally arrived at every doorstep. This year's Dashain can be very different and tragic in terms of blessing and gathering, Corona's infection risk and the deep pit of the economy may result in less proportionate Dashain to everyone's door this year, but, certainly, the joy and mood of Dashain will not diminish. Let's redefine the Dashain where we are, shall we?

सबैभन्दा शुभ र सम्पूर्ण संसारलाई शुभ प्रदान गर्ने पवित्र र स्वच्छ दुर्गा माता हुनुहुन्छ। वहाँले आत्मसमर्पण गर्नेहरूको रक्षा गर्नुहुन्छ र वहाँलाई तीन लोककी माता पनि भनिन्छ । पर्वत राजाकी छोरी गौरी हाम्री माता दुर्गालाई बारम्बार नमन गर्छौं। हामी उनको पूजा गर्छौं।

In these 16 days, Goddess Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth and auspiciousness, is worshiped. Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared during the Samundra Manthan process from Ksheer Ocean (Ksheer Sagar), she is married to Lord Vishnu or Sri Hari. Every now and then metal coins fall from the palm of the hand of Goddess Lakshmi seated on the lotus flower. If you look at these images, the goddess of wealth is an idol of tender heart and an easy presence.

The 16-day Pitri Paksha has a big role to play in the beginning of the Dashain, 16 days of Pitri Paksha started from today. These 16 days are the homage fortnight to ancestors, ancestor means Pitri in Sanskrit so these days are called Pitri Parksha.

काठमाडौँ एउटा इतिहासै इतिहासको सहर हो, देवाधिदेव महादेवको पवित्र पाशुपत क्षेत्रको इतिहास कुनै काव्य या इतिहासका ताम्र पत्र या शिलालेखमा उल्लेख छैन तथापि यस सहर बासीको सहिष्णुता, संस्कार, सभ्यता अनि सांस्कृतिक धरोहरहरू आज विश्वका लागि नै एउटा अनमोल प्राचीन सम्पत्ति भएको छ ।

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशी जस्तै हरेक महिना प्रदोष पनि महत्त्वपूर्ण रहन्छ, एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ ।

Those who worship Lord Vamana with devotion, Lord Vamana frees them from all miseries just as he freed the king Bali from the distress. Performing puja according to the method leads to happiness, joy and desired results.

जसले भगवान वामनको भक्ति र भक्तिपूर्वक आराधना गर्दछ, भगवान वामनले तिनीहरूलाई राजा बलिको संकटबाट देवताहरूलाई मुक्त गरे जस्तै सबै दुःखबाट मुक्त गर्नुहुन्छ। विधि अनुसार पूजा गर्नाले सुख, आनन्द र इच्छित फल प्राप्त हुन्छ।

There is a classical belief that there is no other way to destroy sins than this Ekadashi brat. It is believed that fasting on Haripariwartini Ekadashi will bring the results equivalent of performing supreme Vajpayee Yajna. Haripariwartini Ekadashi is also called Jayanti Ekadashi and Waaman Ekadashi.

हरिपरिवर्तिनी एकादशीलाई जयन्ती एकादशी र वामन एकादशी पनि भनिन्छ । पापहरुको नाश गर्न यस एकादशीको ब्रत भन्दा ठुलो अरु कुनै उपाय नभएको शास्त्रीय मान्यता रहेको छ । हरिपरिवर्तिनी एकादशीमा निष्ठापूर्वक व्रत लिनाले वाजपेय यज्ञको फल प्राप्त हुने विश्वास छ ।पौराणिक कथन अनुसार भदौ महिनाको शुक्लपक्ष एकादशीको नाम हरिपरिवर्तिनी एकादशी हो ।

Radha janmostsav or Radhashtami is a holy day for Hindus. Krishna Priya Radhaji was born on the eighth day of the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Therefore this day is celebrated as Radhashtami.

राधाष्टमी सनातन हिन्दुहरूको पवित्र दिन हो । कृष्ण प्रिया राधाजीको जन्म भाद्र पद शुक्ल पक्षको आठौँ दिन भएको थियो । त्यसैले यो दिनलाई राधाष्टमीका रूपमा मनाउने गरिन्छ । भूमिबाट श्री राधाजी वृष भानुको यज्ञ अग्नि प्रकट भएको थियो र यसै कारण पनि श्री राधालाई लक्ष्मीको अवतार मानिन्छ। राधा भगवान् कृष्णको सबैभन्दा प्रिय थिइन् । श्री राधाको आराधना नगरी भगवान् कृष्णको पूजा अधुरो मानिन्छ ।

Mahalakshmi Mahavrata commences today with, simplicity and tenderness of the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

अर्थात क्षीर सागरमा प्रकट भएकी लक्ष्मी, चन्द्रमा समान तेज भएकी माता र बिष्णु बल्लभा, मैले गरेको यस व्रतवाट सन्तुष्ट हुनुहोस् ।

It is customary to fast on Sasthi Tithi from the Sukla Paksha of the month of Bhadra and commemorate this day in the name of the Sun God. This date is called Surya Shashthi. The Sun is the most powerful, bright, and vast thing that human beings can see from the earth and humans have ever seen from their planet.

For the first time in the history of the country, the 65-years of aspiration of the people to make a constitution through the elected representatives of the people has come true. Today (Bhadra Shukla Panchami) is Rishi Panchami, a special day for women to worship the seven sages (Saptarishis). The history of Rishi Panchami is thousands of years old and just as old is the history of the importance given to women's sexual and reproductive health and rights by Vedic Sanatan rituals. It is customary for women to compare the days of menstruation according to the four goddesses: Chandalani on the first day, Brahmadhatini on the second day, Dhobini on the third day and purification by bathing on the fourth day.

ऋषि पञ्चमीको इतिहास हजारौँ वर्ष पुरानो छ र त्यतिकै पुरानो छ वैदिक सनातन संस्कारले नारीहरूको यौन तथा प्रजनन स्वास्थ्य र अधिकारलाई दिएको महत्त्वको इतिहास । नारीलाई रजस्वलाको दिनहरूलाई चार वटा देवीहरू अनुरूप तुलना गर्ने चलन छ: प्रथम दिन चण्डालिनी, दोस्रो दिन ब्रह्मधातिनी, तेस्रो दिन धोबिनी र चौथो दिन स्नान गरी शुद्ध हुने चलन छ ।

On the day of Bhadra Shukla Tritiya, Hindu women celebrate Teej with pomp and fanfare by worshiping Lord Shiva, fasting, and dancing. Ganesh Chaturthi and Rishi Panchami are also considered part of Tija. For the protection of husband and family, the women who are fasting today feel as if God himself descends on the earth for unwavering good fortune and eternal fullness.

‘तीज’ शब्द नामकरण कसरी भयो भन्ने कुरामा हामीले थोरै अध्ययन गर्‍यौँ । जसमा प्राप्त जानकारीलाई यहाँहरूमाझ राख्दै छौँ । तीज वर्षा याममा निस्कने एक प्रकारको किरा भएको र वर्षा यामको उत्तरार्द्धमा भएको यो चाडको नामकरणको कथा यसै वर्षे किरासँग सम्बन्धित भएको पनि पायौँ । अर्कोतर्फ तिहार, त्यो हार भन्नाले उत्कर्षको चाडका रूपमा जनाउ दिने शब्द मानिने र तीज पनि त्यो हारबाट तीजको स्वरूपमा आएको कुराहरू पनि पायौँ ।

Teej is not only a ritual but also a culture. Onlookers see it as a feminist festival, but if you open the eyes and the walls of the mind, Teej is also the enthusiasm for the gender equality. Teej can be taken as a common platform of all female relatives including mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, mother-in-law, mother-in-law, sister, sister in Nepal and beyond.

Ratnarajya Laxmidevi Shah, during her visit to India, saw that Children's Day was celebrated in India on the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, and came back to celebrate a special national day for children at the state level in Nepal as well. Inspired by this intention, National Children's Day was started on Bhadra 4, her birthday. In B.S 2021, National Children's Day was celebrated for the first time in Nepal. Two days after Krishna Janaasthami, Aja Ekadashi falls every year. Aja Ekadashi is also known and addresses as Kamika Ekadashi and Anand Ekadashi however, Aja is more popular. In this month of Shrawan, auspicious Aja Ekadashi is entirely dedicated to Lord Vishnu and goddesses Laxmi.

भगवान् श्रीहरिको ऋषिकेश भन्नाले भगवान् विष्णुले दैत्य र राक्षसहरूको वितण्डा र पीडाबाट सुरक्षित रहन ऋषिहरूलाई प्रदान गरेको भूमि हो, जहाँ भगवान् विष्णु स्वयंले आफ्नो दैवी शक्तिसहित उपस्थित भई यज्ञ–यज्ञादि र धार्मिक कृत्य सुसञ्चालन गर्ने गरेका छन् । यो दिन शुद्ध चित्त लिएर व्रत बस्दा भगवान विष्णुले सबै दुःखबाट उद्धार गर्छन् र यस एकादशीको कथा श्रवण मात्रले अश्वमेघ यज्ञ गरेबराबरको फल प्राप्त हुने मान्यता पनि रहीआएको छ ।

This day literally translates to civil servant's day but much broader democratic meaning can be derived from placing in as civil service worker's day. Today is Krishna Janmashtami, my hundred thousand salutations to Lord Krishna, I won't dare to describe Krishna today but allow me to explain the importance of being Krishna, in today's context.

प्रत्येक वर्ष भाद्र कृष्ण अष्टमीका दिनमा मनाइने श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी पर्व आज भगवान् श्रीकृष्णको पूजा आराधना गरी मनाइन्छ । संसारभरका हिन्दु धर्मावलम्वी अनि श्री कृष्णका भक्तहरुले आज प्रिय भगवान कृष्णको जन्मदिवस मनाउँदैछन् । हातमा मुरली, शिरमा मयूरको प्वाँख, शितल बगैंचामुनी, जीवजन्तुहरुको साथमा गोपिनीहरूको मायामा बाँसुरीको मधूर धून यस्तै वातावरणमा विराजमान प्यारा भगवान श्री कृष्ण आजैको दिन मामा कंशको कैदमा रहेका पिता वासुदेव र माता देवकीको गर्भबाट वहाँको जन्म भएको मान्यता रहिआएको छ । कृष्ण जन्माष्टमीलाई सातम आठम, गोकुलष्टमी, अष्टमी रोहिनी, श्रीकृष्ण जयन्ती, श्री जयन्ती वा कहिलेकाही साधारण भाषामा जन्माष्टमी भन्ने गरिन्छ ।

Probably the first essay written by many of us in student life was about cows. Not only the Vedic Sanatan rites but also the Indus Valley Civilization and in Bharat Barsa, the cow is worshiped as a symbol of special respect and faith in religious and cultural occasions in daily life. The Gaijatra festival is also an example of such cultural significance. This pilgrimage is very important especially for the family members who lost their loved ones in the last year as it is a special place of remembrance, affection, and closeness of the deceased.

गाई र जात्रा अर्थात् यस दिन माता र पृथ्वीको रूपमा हिन्दु संस्कारमा पूजनीय गाई को जात्रा पनि हो । इतिहासका पन्नाहरुमा लेखिएका र किंवदन्तिहरु का अनुसार यस दिन काठमाडौँ उपत्यका वासीहरूले यम अर्थात् मृत्युका देवता यमराजलाई पूजा गर्ने गर्दछन् ।

उपनयन संस्कार भएकाहरूले जनै लगाउने गर्दछन् । सनातन दर्शनमा मानिसको जीवनलाई १६ वटा संस्कारले बाँधेको हुन्छ र उपनयन संस्कार त्यस मध्य एक हो । उपनयनको शाब्दिक अर्थ चाहिँ नजिक जाने प्रक्रिया या चाहना हो र जीवनमा भगवानतत्वसंग नजिक जाने यस संस्कारको महत्त्व असाध्यै धेरै छ ।

The last day of Shukla Paksha is the full moon day. On this tithi, the moon is the brightest and magnificent. It is believed that fasting on this day brings immense lunar grace to health, prosperity, and peace. On the full moon day, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are especially worshiped. Special worship to Lord Vishnu is done in the form of Satya Narayan Puja. Satya Narayan Puja is usually performed whenever possible, although the fruits of this puja performed on the day of the full moon are very abundant.

शुक्ल पक्षको अन्तिम दिन पूर्णिमा हो । यस तिथिमा चन्द्रमा सर्वाधिक चम्किलो र तेजिलो रूपमा रहेको हुन्छ । यस दिन व्रत बस्नाले चन्द्रमाको असीम कृपा प्राप्त हुने र स्वास्थ्य, समृद्धि र शान्ति प्राप्त हुने विश्वास छ । पूर्णिमाको दिन विशेष गरि भगवान् शिव र विष्णुको आराधना गरिन्छ । भगवान् विष्णुलाई गरिने विशेष अर्चनालाई सत्य नारायण पूजाको स्वरूपमा गरिन्छ । सामान्यतया सत्य नारायण पूजा जहिले गरे पनि हुने कार्य हो यद्यपि पूर्णिमाको दिनमा गरिने यस पूजाको फल निकै धेरै पाइन्छ ।

This Ekadashi has three names, Pavitropana and Pavitra Ekadashi, this has its significance among the chain of 52 Ekadashis across the year.

पौष शुक्ल पक्षमा पर्ने एकादशीलाई पनि पुत्रदा एकादशी भनिन्छ । श्रावण र पौष दुवै महिनाको शुक्ल पक्षमा यस एकादशी पर्दछ । पद्म पुराण अनुसार सांसारिक सुख समृद्धि तथा पुत्र प्राप्तिका लागि पुत्रदा एकादशीको व्रत बस्ने गरिन्छ । सन्तान नभएका सबैले पुत्रदा एकादशीको व्रत लिनु फलदायी हुने धार्मिक विश्वास रहेको छ ।

Gaura Parwa has it's roots deeply associated with the origin of the Nepali language and Khas kingdom. Today is the birth anniversary of Tulsidas Prabhu (1532-1623), a seeker of very influential ideas in social balance and a full exponent of Vedic Sanatan Hindu philosophy, religious narrator, and poet. He is also known as Goswami Tulsidas.

समाज सन्तुलनमा अत्यन्त प्रभावकारी विचारका साधक र वैदिक सनातन हिन्दु दर्शनका पूर्नब्याख्याकार, धार्मिक आख्यानकार र कवि का रुपमा प्रसिद्ध तुलसीदास प्रभु (सन् १५३२ देखि १६२३०) को आज जन्मजयन्ति, उनी गोस्वामी तुलसीदासको नामले पनि चिनिन्छन् ।

Lord Vishnu is one of the three members of the Hindu trinity, Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwar. Lord Maheshwar, also known as Lord Shiva, is renowned as the destroyer, whereas Lord Vishnu is known as the preserver or defender of the entire universe. Of these three triumvirates of gods, Lord Brahma is thought to have created the cosmos.

हरेक वर्ष भाद्र शुक्ल द्वादशीका दिन कल्कि जयन्ती मनाउने गरिन्छ । कलियुगको अन्त गराउने जन्म हुने विष्णुको यस अवतारले अधर्मको नाश गराएर धर्मको पुनर्स्थापना गराउने विश्वास गरिन्छ ।

Nag Panchami, I call it a fulcrum of monsoon, right in the midpoint and this midpoint is culturally stated as Naagpanchami. The convoy of festivals has started and now in the hot sun, there is a hint of Dashain. Sanatana festivals are not only associated with religion but also with culture, our culture is further enriched by festivals like Nag Panchami, the day to worship reptiles, and dedicated to the serpent god, Naag.

श्रावण शुक्ल पक्षको पञ्चमीमा पर्ने यो दिन नागदेवता का लागि समर्पित गरिएको यस दिन गरिएका पूजा अर्चना वास्तवमै नाग देवता समक्ष पुग्ने जनविश्वास रहेको छ, वैदिक दर्शनमा १२ वटा नागहरूको उपस्थिति पाइन्छ ।

The last day of Shukla Paksha is the full moon day. On this tithi, the moon is the brightest and magnificent. It is believed that fasting on this day brings immense lunar grace to health, prosperity, and peace. On the full moon day, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are especially worshiped. Special worship to Lord Vishnu is done in the form of Satya Narayan Puja. Satya Narayan Puja is usually performed whenever possible, although the fruits of this puja performed on the day of the full moon are very abundant.

आजबाट मलमास शुरु भयो है, ल आउनुहोस् आज मलमासका बारेमा कुरा गरौं हाम्रो पात्रोमा । हामी सबैलाई थाहा छ कि ३६५ दिनको या भनौं १२ महिनाको १ बर्ष हुन्छ । सूर्यको गति हनुसार गणना गरिने मासलाई सौर्य मास भनिन्छ भने चन्द्रको गति अनुसार गणना गरिने मासलाई चन्द्र मास भनिन्छ। सौर्यमासमा सामान्यतया २९ देखि ३२ दिन सम्मको महिना हुन्छ भने चन्द्रमासमा एक पूर्णिमादेखि अर्को पूर्णिमासम्म २९ दिन १२ घन्टा ४४ मिनेट र २४ सेकेन्डको एक चन्द्रमास हुन्छ। सामान्य रुपमा तिथीहरु चन्द्रमास अनि गतेहरु सौर्यमास भनेर बुझ्न सकिन्छ ।

Shrawaan is the month of water and its feature, Shrawaan is the month of Shambhu and his followers, from Kailash Parwat till the north pole, from the dead sea, will the south pole, may Shrawan prevail the goodies and purity, may Lord Shiva reside in every hearts.

This Chaturdashi is also considered a metal day. The significance of this Chartudashi is very different and practical among the Chartudashis of the year. It is believed that the procession started in the valley from this day. Gathemaganal i.e. Ghantakarna Chartudashi. Gathemangal is called Gathanmuga in the Newa language and it is said that Gathemangal is derived from this word in Nepali.

National Paddy Day / Dhan Diwas has been formally celebrated in Nepal since 2061 BS. But for centuries, it has been the custom to celebrate the 15th of Asar as a time of eating Dahi chura, planting paddy and celebration remained. Since the creator Lord Hari i.e. Vishnu is going to sleep in the Ksheer Sagar for four months from this Ekadashi, this Ekadashi is also called Harishyani Ekadashi or Devashyani and Asare Ekadashi. It is believed that people the lord Vishnu who sleeps on this Ekadashi wake up only on Haribodhini Ekadashi of the month of Kartik. The sleeping time of lord Vishnu is therefore cited as chaturmas, or the four months era.

The Yoga Sutras are credited to Adiyogi Lord Shiva. The yoga practices that started from Shiva have come to us through generations of Saptarishis, scholars, sages, and Gurus. According to architectural studies, the idol of Lord Shiva in the meditation posture is considered to be the oldest. There is also an idol of Mahavira Jain, meditating. Another basis of yoga is the meditation idol of Lord Buddha, this idol is considered world famous. According to another statement, credit for yoga is given to Lord Krishna. Among the many names of Lord Krishna, Yogeshwar is also worshiped. Even UNESCO has registered yoga as its intangible cultural heritage since 2016.

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ । यस कारणले हरेक महिनाको त्रयोदशीमा भगवान् शिवको स्मरण गर्दै प्रदोष व्रत लिइन्छ।

Today, an idol of Lord Narayan is installed by fasting, and is revered. Offering vog means offering food, fruits, Naivedh, etc. It is the broad spectrum of living; Sanatan people consider the idol as a living god and treats it with grain, devotion, and other offerings. People donate to needy people under the grace of that idol, they lighten the incense sticks and also perform Aaratis.

The eighth month of the Newa calendar is Tachala which coincides with the second month of Bikram Samvat. The full moon begins on the 15th day, starting with the new moon. This month is also divided into Shuklapaksha and Chandrapaksha which are called Tachala Thwa and Tachala Ga.

नेवा पात्रोको आठौंमहिना तछला हो जुन बिक्रम संवतको जेष्ठ महिनासंग ठोकिने गर्दछ । तछला नयाँ चन्द्रमासंगै शुरु भएर १५ औं दिनमा पूर्णचन्द्र पर्न आँउदछ । यस मासलाई पनि शुक्लपक्ष र चन्द्रपक्ष गरि दुई पक्षमा विभाजन गरिन्छ जसलाई तछला थ्व र तछला गा भनिन्छ ।

The last day of Shukla Paksha is the full moon day. On this tithi, the moon is the brightest and magnificent. It is believed that fasting on this day brings immense lunar grace to health, prosperity, and peace. On the full moon day, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are especially worshiped. Special worship to Lord Vishnu is done in the form of Satya Narayan Puja. Satya Narayan Puja is usually performed whenever possible, although the fruits of this puja performed on the day of the full moon are very abundant.

शुक्ल पक्षको अन्तिम दिन पूर्णिमा हो । यस तिथीमा चन्द्रमा सर्वाधिक चम्किलो र तेजिलो रुपमा रहेको हुन्छ । यस दिन व्रत बस्नाले चन्द्रमाको असिम कृपा प्राप्त हुने र स्वास्थ, समृद्धि र शान्ति प्राप्त हुने विश्वास छ । पूर्णिमाको दिन विशेषगरि भगवान शिव र विष्णुको आराधना गरिन्छ । भगवान विष्णुलाई गरिने विशेष अर्चनालाई सत्य नारायण पुजाको स्वरुपमा गरिन्छ । सामान्यतया सत्य नारायण पुजा जहिले गरे पनि हुने कार्य हो यद्धपि पूर्णिमाको दिनमा गरिने यस पुजाको फल निकै धेरै पाइन्छ ।

These daughters and sons will grow up and feed us, be our companions in helpless times. This is a super slogan in Nepali households, today I go direct, no roles and no diplomacies, direct and clear on the living gods, parents, and their contribution to sustain this creation. Why will be the responsibility of parents stuck only in the availability of milk rice and dal rice? These obsolete rice and milk are just metaphors, love, harmony, respect, embrace, and remembrance are based on the construction of the whole creation and the parents are the creator.

यो नेपाली समाजको एउटा थेगो हो, आज ठाडो केरा लेख्न चित्त परेको छ, कुरा आमाबुवाको आएपछि घुमाएर कुरा गर्नुको र भूमिकाको कुनै अर्थ छैन, बुवाआमाहरु ज्यूँदा भगवानहरु हुन्, यिनीहरूको समर्पण अनि यिनीहरूप्रतिको आदरमा समाज टिकेको छ ।

That is to say, I readily accept the fruits, flowers, water, etc., which are devotionally offered with a selfless spirit. In the name of Lord Krishna, we would like to sing the praises of this year's Nirjala Ekadashi, Nirjala i.e. Ekadashi without water, Ekadashi is observed with devotion by fasting without water. Since water is not consumed, there is no question of food or fruits, it is customary for the extremely hungry and pious mind to transmit positive energy and power to the mind and every organ of the body on this Ekadashi. This Ekadashi is also known as Pandava Ekadashi and Bhima Ekadashi.

यस एकादशी महत्त्वपूर्ण आयामहरू बोकेर आएको छ, यस दिनमा तुलसीका दानाहरूलाई जमिनमा छर्ने चलन हुन्छ, कतिले तुलसीको मोठको माटोमा नै तुलसीका दानाहरू अर्थात् मञ्जरीहरू छर्दछन् भनेँ कतिले चाहिँ जमिनमा सफा पारेर माटो फुरुरु बनाएर तुलसी छर्दछन् । यस दिन छरिएका तुलसीहरूको अङ्कुरण भएपछि ती बिरुवाहरूलाई पछि ठुली एकादशीमा रोप्ने गरिन्छ । हरिको जयजयकार मनाउँदै आज यस एकादशीको भव्य स्मरण गरिन्छ ।

The importance of Jestha Shukla Pratipada tithi is very high. On this tithi, in the Vedic period, Bhagirathi brought Ganga to earth. Before this, the holy Ganga used to flow only in the heavens, but after this, it is believed that the descent of the Ganga took place in the earth.

दश योग जोडिएको दिनलाई दशहरा अर्थात् दशमी पर्व मानिन्छ भने आजको दिन गङ्गा नदीमा स्नान गर्दा या गङ्गा जलले अभिषेक गर्दा मात्र पनि दश प्रकारका पाप नाश हुने धार्मिक विश्वास छ । पाप नाश हुने र सँगसँगै आज गङ्गा स्नान गरेर पितृलाई तर्पण दिँदा पितृले मुक्ति पाउने र स्वर्ग जाने र आफ्नो सबै मनको इच्छा पूरा हुने जनविश्वास पनि छ ।

Magh Krishna Paksha Ekadashi is Shattila Ekadashi. Shat means six and Tila means sesame seeds, these two words together have been called for this Ekadashi. According to which sesame is used in divine bathing, sesame is coated, sesame is burnt in hawan, sesame is offered as Pinda and Tarpan, sesame is eaten and sesame is donated.

माघ कृष्ण पक्षको एकादशीलाई षट्तिला एकादशी भनिन्छ । यसलाई माघ कृष्ण एकादशी, तिला एकादशी आदि विभिन्न नामले जानिन्छ । षट् अर्थात् ६ वटा र तिल अर्थात् तिलको दाना, यी दुई शब्द मिलेर यस एकादशीको आव्हान भएको छ । जस अनुसार तिलले स्नान गर्ने, तिलको लेपन लगाउने, तिलको हवन गर्ने, तिलले पितृ तर्पण गर्ने, तिलको भोजन गर्ने र तिल दान गरिन्छ । षटतिला एकादशीको व्रत बस्नेले व्रतका क्रममा जति दाना तिलको प्रयोग गर्दछन् त्यति नै वर्ष स्वर्गमा बास हुने धार्मिक विश्वास रहेको छ । त्यसै गरी अरू एकादशी व्रत झैँ श्रद्धापूर्वक षटतिला एकादशीको व्रत बस्नाले सबै पापहरूको नष्ट हुने मान्यता रहेको छ । षटतिला एकादशी व्रतका समयमा तिललाई विभिन्न ६ प्रकारले प्रयोग गरिने भएकोले नै षटतिला भनिएको हो ।

It was misinterpreted as a delusion to say that leprosy and those who are afflicted with the disease are unforgivable sinners. As this delusion was cultivated based on some myths and memories written in the middle era, leprosy was considered a curse and a sin in Nepali society for centuries. Many patients were tied up in the corner of the backyard, and the horrific scenes and stories of those who died after leprosy melted parts of their bodies are still heard in society.

The theme for International Customs Day in 2024, “Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose,” encapsulates the dynamic nature of customs operations in the contemporary global landscape.

वर्ष २०२२ को भन्सार दिवसको नारा Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose रहेको छ । निर्दिष्ट उद्देश्यका साथ परम्परागत र नयाँ साझेदारहरू संलग्न गर्ने भन्सार भन्ने अर्थ लाग्दछ । यस वर्ष भन्सारको परम्परागत र आधूनिक दुबै तवरहरुको विश्वभरि महत्व दर्शाइदै छ ।

Mokshada Ekadashi is also commemorated as Geeta Jayanti. This day is the starting tithi when Lord Shri Krishna started to narrate Srimad Vagwat Geeta to Arjuna. So today is the birthday of Bhagwat Geeta, the only book that advocates for righteousness in human life and its sheer practicalities.

Budhaastami brings several dimension and devotion, Lord Shiva and Parwati are especially worshiped and prayed in this day, and people observe fasting and visit temples. According to the Sanatan legend, it is believed that one who observes this day of Budhaastami, never goes to hell, after death. Observers also seek divine blessings with prosperity for wellbeing in their lives.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights is the most widely translated and published language in the world. It is translated and published in over 500 languages.

Every year on December 9, Anti-Corruption Day is celebrated around the world to raise the voice against corruption. In 2003, the United Nations General Assembly recognized the day as Anti-Corruption Day.

The Krishna Paksha Ekadashi after Kartik Purnima is Utpanna Ekadashi. This is also known as Utpatika Ekadashi. This is associated with the origin of all Ekadashis and their significance.

The last day of Shukla Paksha is the full moon day. On this tithi, the moon is the brightest and magnificent. It is believed that fasting on this day brings immense lunar grace to health, prosperity, and peace. On the full moon day, Lord Shiva and Vishnu are especially worshiped. Special worship to Lord Vishnu is done in the form of Satya Narayan Puja. Satya Narayan Puja is usually performed whenever possible, although the fruits of this puja performed on the day of the full moon are very abundant.

शुक्ल पक्षको अन्तिम दिन पूर्णिमा हो । यस तिथीमा चन्द्रमा सर्वाधिक चम्किलो र तेजिलो रुपमा रहेको हुन्छ । यस दिन व्रत बस्नाले चन्द्रमाको असिम कृपा प्राप्त हुने र स्वास्थ, समृद्धि र शान्ति प्राप्त हुने विश्वास छ । पूर्णिमाको दिन विशेषगरि भगवान शिव र विष्णुको आराधना गरिन्छ । भगवान विष्णुलाई गरिने विशेष अर्चनालाई सत्य नारायण पुजाको स्वरुपमा गरिन्छ । सामान्यतया सत्य नारायण पुजा जहिले गरे पनि हुने कार्य हो यद्धपि पूर्णिमाको दिनमा गरिने यस पुजाको फल निकै धेरै पाइन्छ ।

Every year from 25th November to 10th December, various activities and programs are organized for 16 days to show solidarity and generate public awareness against gender-based violence.

अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय महिला दिवस र आजको दिनमा केही भिन्नताहरू छन् । विश्वभर अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय महिला दिवस ८ मार्चमा मनाउने गरिएको छ । महिला हिंसा अन्त्य दिवस आजको दिन मनाउने गरिए पनि यो १६ दिनसम्म चल्ने कार्यक्रम हो । आजदेखि १० डिसेम्बरसम्म चल्ने विभिन्न अभियान, कार्यक्रमहरू सञ्चालन हुन्छन् ।

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi, and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ । यस कारणले हरेक महिनाको त्रयोदशीमा भगवान् शिवको स्मरण गर्दै प्रदोष व्रत लिइन्छ।

It is believed that Lord Vishnu, who has been fast asleep since Harishyani Ekadashi, wakes up today. Haribodhini Ekadashi is an important Ekadashi, this Ekadashi is also called the biggest Ekadashi or Thuli Ekadashi, because of its glory. This Ekadashi shares an intrinsic attachment with the Tulsi/ Basil plant.

हरिबोधिनी एकादशीलाई एकादशीहरुमा सबैभन्दा ठूलो एकादशीका रुपमा लिइन्छ । त्यसैले पनि जनजिब्रोमा यो एकादशीलाई ठूली एकादशी भन्ने पनि छ । यसको महिमाका कारण पनि यसलाई ठूलो एकादशी भनिएको हो ।

Today's ninth day of Kartik Shukla Paksha, today's special day Kushmand Navami is known as Akshay Navami, Amla Navami, and Dhatri Navami. Today the amla tree is worshiped. There is a religious belief that Lord Vishnu resides on the Amla tree from Kartik Shukla Navami to Kartik Purnima.

आज का​र्तिक शुक्ल पक्षको नवमी तिथि, आजको यो विशेष दिन कुष्माण्ड नवमीलाई अक्षय नवमी, अमला नवमी र धात्री नवमीको नामले चिनिन्छ । आजको दिन अमलाको वृक्षको पूजा गर्ने गरिन्छ । भगवान विष्णु कार्तिक शुक्ल नवमीबाट कार्तिक पूर्णिमा तिथिसम्म अमलाको रुखमा निवास गर्नुहुने धार्मिक मान्यता रहेको छ । आजको दिन अमलाको अतिरिक्त भगवान विष्णुजीको पनि विधि विधानले पूजा अर्चना गर्ने गरिन्छ । कुष्माण्ड नवमीको दिन स्नान, पूजा, तर्पण तथा अन्न आदिको दान गर्नाले अक्षय फल मिल्ने शास्त्रोक्त कथन रहेको छ ।

Gopastami falls on Kartik Shukla Ashtami. This Tithi is associated with the security of Gaumata, the mother cow. Names like Gwala, Gopal, and Gobind have come to prominence due to the love and care of Gaumata. Even Krishna's favorite name is Gobinda, in this context Gopasthami's relevance is connected.

गौमाता वा गाईको माया र ख्याल, रक्षा र सुरक्षासँग जोडिएकाले ग्वाला, गोपाल अनि गोविन्दजस्ता नामहरु बनेको विश्वास गरिन्छ । भगवान श्रीकृष्णको अति प्रिय नाममध्ये एउटा हो, गोविन्द । यही नामहरुको परिप्रेक्ष्यसँग गोपाष्टमीको सन्दर्भ जोडिएको हुन्छ ।

The Tihar holiday is officially getting over. In the year 2080, the Tihar holidays were 6 consecutive days, and the number of holidays which started from Kartik 25 has gradually reached Kartik 30.

औपचारिक रूपमा तिहार बिदाको समाप्ति हुँदै छ । वर्ष २०८० मा तिहारको बिदा लगातार ६ दिनको थियो, कार्तिक २५ देखि सुरु भएको बिदाको लर्को क्रमशः कार्तिक ३० गतेसम्म आइपुगेको छ ।

Today, it is customary for sisters to worship their brothers, including saptarangi tikas, ever fresh-looking Makhamali garlands, selrotis, anarsa, chocolate, cashews, raisins, coconut, sweets, spices, and other foods. Brother gifts back to sister, this is a divine festival. Bhai means brother and Tika join together to make Bhai Tika.

In the Newari community today, it is customary to celebrate Mha puja and value self-existence. In the Newari language, there is a predominance of small words like Mha, Mha means self,, and puja is worship, so today is respecting self and acknowledging the preciousness of life.

Sombare Aunshi has a specific significance in Nepal, this dates back to January 2, 1990, when an earthquake of 8.4 Richter scale struck Nepal. This day was Monday no moon day or Monday Aaunshi. And that Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Venus, Saturn, and Rahu were in the same zodiac sign.

Today, late at night, the goddess of wealth, Goddess Lakshmi, is worshiped. All the material, ornaments, and wealth in the house are worshiped by establishing Lakshmi, Ganesh, and Saraswati. The pillars of banana are considered to be very important in the Vedic Sanatan Hindu belief and today courtyards are decorated with the gates of banana trees and lights are placed on it.

Another great and important festival celebrated by the followers of Vedic Sanatan Hindu religion is Tihar or Yamapanchak. The first important day of this festival is called Kaag Tihar, this day commences the five days of celebration.

Another important festival of Nepalis, Tihar, which is coming soon after Bada Dashain, has come to everyone's doorstep. Yamapanchak has started from today. Every day of Yamapanchaka has its own religious beliefs. Today Dhan Triodashi i.e. Dhanteras. Today is especially good for Diwali shopping. There is a belief that if we worship Lakshmi with the materials we have bought today, Mother Lakshmi will be happy and make us rich.

Kartik Krishna Ekadashi or Rambha Ekadashi or Rama Ekadashi is the Ekadashi of Krishna paksha in the month of Kartik, this Ekadashi comes only 4 days before the Deepawali.

2023 World Urbanization Day is being celebrated among various forums and virtual seminars as well as many other physical events. From today, Dashain has officially come to an end. The 15 days from Dashain Pratipada to today's full moon is also called Durgapaksha. Today, on the Kojagrat full moon, the full moon will rise in the sky at night and the auspicious lights (Mahadeep Jyoti) will be lit at night in the temples including Swayambhu in Kathmandu. Kojagrat Purnima is also the day of Pratipada, the day when the soil deposited in Ghatsthapana and the collected jamaras are duly disposed of in a river or reservoir.

आज कोजाग्रत पूर्णिमा, आकाशमा राती पूर्णचन्द्र उदाउनेछ र काठमाडौँको स्वयम्भू लगायतका चैत्यहरूमा राती महादीप ज्योति प्रज्वलन गरिनेछ । प्रतिपदाको दिन, घटस्थापनामा जम्मा गरेको माटाहरू र उमारेका जमराहरूलाई विधिपूर्वक कुनै नदी या जलाशयमा सेलाउने दिन पनि कोजाग्रत पूर्णिमाकै दिन हो ।

Mainly the Tika of Dashami day is considered special. Keeping in mind the context where it is not possible to wear tika on the day of Dashami itself because of the traveling distance, the tradition of tika and jamra till the Poorima has been established.

मुख्यतया दशमीका दिनको टिकालाई विशेष मानिन्छ । तर परपर भएका माइती मावलीहरूमा दशमीका दिन नै टिका भ्याउन नसक्ने परिवेशलाई ध्यानमा राखेर पूर्णिमाका दिनसम्म टिका र जमरा लगाइदिने चलन स्थापना भएको हो ।

The 11th day of the Hindu date is called Ekadashi, Ekadashi i.e. the eleventh day it is customary to fast on this date, eat only fruits and listen to the story of Ekadashi Mahatmaya.

नौ दिनसम्म पूजा अर्चना गरेको जमरा अनि दही, रातो अबिर, केरा र चामलसहितको सम्मिश्रणबाट तयार पारिएको रातो बाक्लो अक्षताले निधार भरिने टीका नै विजया दशमीको महत्त्वपूर्ण सकल परिवार एकै ठाउँमा बसेर, घरको मूल खाँबो पूजा गरेर उमेर क्रमानुसार ठुला अनि क्रमशः सानाहरूले टीका, जमरा र आर्सीवाद थाप्ने चलन छ । उमेर पुगेका पाकाहरू साइतको टिका लगाउन आफूभन्दा ठुला मान्यजन कहाँ जाने र नभएमा आफ्नै जीवनसाथी, जीवनसंगीनी या दाजु–भाइकहाँ जाने गर्छन् ।

The sky-touching chariot is constructed in Sikhar pattern (Mountain like pattern), the wooden edifice is about 15 to 20 meters in height and 4.5 meters in diameter. From the construction of the Chariot to the Bhoto Jatra, this longest Jatra has a process of 2 months and today is the main day.

बुंग द्यः जसलाई रक्तलोकित्सर्व करुणामय अनि रातो मछिन्द्रनाथ पनि भनिन्छ, वर्षाका देवताका रुपमा प्रचलित यस देवताको जात्रा काठमाडौले सदियौँदेखि मनाउँदै आएको छ । नेपाल संवत्को सातौँ महिना बछलाको शुक्लपक्षको चौँथो तिथिमा पर्ने यस जात्राका दिनहरु यसै दिन हुन्छ भनेर यकिन गर्न सकिदैन् ।

Today is the ninth day of Navratri, today is the day of special worship of Mother Siddhidhatri as the ninth power of Goddess Durga and along with her worship of Goddess Mahalakshmi. Today, it is believed that by worshiping Siddhidhatri as a power, one can achieve the perfection that can conquer the whole world and nothing in the world is inaccessible for them. According to the Devi Purana, Shivaji himself has attained perfection due to the infinite mercy of this goddess.

आज नवरात्रिको नवौँ दिन । आज दुर्गा माताको नवौँ शक्ति स्वरूपा माता सिद्धि धात्रीको विशेष पूजा अनुष्ठान गरिने दिन हो । साथै आज धनधान्यकी देवी माता महालक्ष्मी देवीको पनि पूजा अर्चना गरिन्छ । आजको दिन शक्ति स्वरूप सिद्धि धात्रीको पूजा गर्नाले सम्पूर्ण संसार नै जित्न सक्ने सिद्धता हासिल हुने र संसारमा केही कुरा पनि अगम्य नहुने मान्यता छ ।

Today, on Maha-Ashtami, the eighth day of Navratri, the nine forms of Goddess Durga - Shailaputri, Bramhacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kalratri, Mahagauri, and Siddhidatri - are worshiped.

नौरथाको मेला अनि दुर्गा भवानीका शक्ति पीठहरूमा भिडभाड, कसैलाई मिठाई किन्न हतारो हुन सक्छ त कसैलाई मासु ? कसैलाई पलेँटी कसेर तास खेल्ने तिर्सना होला त कसैलाई साथीभाइसँग भेटघाटको तिर्सना । जे होस्, यस वर्षको दसैँको अष्टमीको शुभ दिन अनि शुभ–साइतको शुभकामना ।

This special day of Saptami is called Phoolpati. On this day, special worship of Goddess Durga's Kalratri form is performed. Black-skinned, black-eyed, with three eyes and four arms, holding a sword, a Masal-bearing ghurmudra, and an Abhay mudra in all four hands respectively. This Goddess killed a demon named "RaktaBeej" which was so powerful that he regained life from every drop of drops of blood falling into the soil.

सप्तमीको यो विशेष दिनलाई ‘फूलपाती’ भनिन्छ । यो दिन देवी कालरात्रि स्वरुपा दुर्गाको विशेष पूजा अर्चना गर्ने गरिन्छ । कृष्ण वर्ण अर्थात् कालो वर्ण भएकी, तीन नेत्र अनि चार हात भएकी, चारै हातमा क्रमशः तरबार, मसाल बोकेकी घोर मुद्रा तथा अभय मुद्रा धारण गरेकी, श्वास फेर्दा आगो ओकल्ने यिनै देवीले भुईँमा झरेको हरेक थोपा रगतबाट पुनर्जीवन पाउने रक्तबीज नामक दैत्यको संहार गर्नुभएको हुनुहुन्छ ।

The first day of the month is called Sankranti and the end of the month is called Masanta. Today Libra Sankranti i.e. Sun is entering Libra from Virgo. There are 12 solstices in a year and on the day of solstice the Sun enters from one zodiac sign to another. Today's solstice is also important because the time of day and night are the same on this day.

महीनाको प्रथम दिनलाई संक्रान्ति भनिन्छ भने महीनाको अन्त्य हुने दिनलाई मसान्त भनिन्छ । आज तुला संक्रान्ति अर्थात् सूर्य कन्या राशीबाट तुला राशीमा प्रवेश गर्दैछ । एक वर्षमा १२ वटा संक्रान्तिहरु हुन्छन् र संक्रान्तिको दिनमा सूर्य एउटा राशीबाट अर्को राशीमा प्रवेश गर्दछ । आजको संक्रान्ति यस हिसाबले पनि महत्वपूर्ण छ किनकी यस दिनमा दिन र रातको समय ठ्याक्कै समान हुन्छ । यस संक्रान्तिलाई मत्स्यपूराणमा अत्यन्त महत्वपूर्ण संक्रान्तिकारुपमा ब्याख्या गरिएको पाईन्छ, एक दिन अगाडिबाटै एक छाकमात्र खाएर तुला संक्रान्तिको व्रत बस्ने चलन पनि छ ।

गरिबी उन्मूलनको लागि अन्तर्राष्ट्रिय दिवस मनाउने चलन १७ अक्टोबर १९८७ बाट सुरु भएको हो । त्यस दिन, पेरिसको ट्रोकाडेरोमा एक लाख भन्दा बढी मानिसहरू भेला भएका थिए जुन ठाउँमा सन् १९४८ मा नै मानव अधिकारको विश्वव्यापी घोषणामा हस्ताक्षर गरिएको थियो।

To mark and commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, every year, World Food Day is celebrated across the globe on October 16. This day aims at tackling global hunger and striving to eradicate hunger across the world.

विश्व खाधान्न दिवस, आज एउटा महत्वपूर्ण दिन । भरिएका भकारी, चामलका बोराहरु, चिउरा, गहुँ, कोदो अनि बार्दलीमा झुण्डाएका मकैका घोघाहरु यि अनि यस्ता धेरै अन्नहरु अनि खाधान्नहरु नेपाली घरमा अनि गाँउमा देखिन्छन्, पाइन्छन् । पशुपती नाथको कृपा नै मान्न पर्दछ, अहिलेसम्म नेपाली समाजमा अनि नेपाली माटोमा उव्जनी अनि मछिन्द्रनाथको कृपाले पानीका थोपाहरु ले हरियाली कायम गरिनै रहेका छन् ।

Whatever the anecdote is, Dashain has finally arrived at every doorstep. This year's Dashain can be very different and tragic in terms of blessing and gathering, Corona's infection risk and the deep pit of the economy may result in less proportionate Dashain to everyone's door this year, but, certainly, the joy and mood of Dashain will not diminish. Let's redefine the Dashain where we are, shall we?

सबैभन्दा शुभ र सम्पूर्ण संसारलाई शुभ प्रदान गर्ने पवित्र र स्वच्छ दुर्गा माता हुनुहुन्छ। वहाँले आत्मसमर्पण गर्नेहरूको रक्षा गर्नुहुन्छ र वहाँलाई तीन लोककी माता पनि भनिन्छ । पर्वत राजाकी छोरी गौरी हाम्री माता दुर्गालाई बारम्बार नमन गर्छौं। हामी उनको पूजा गर्छौं।

These 16 days is the homage fortnight to ancestors, ancestors mean Pitri in Sanskrit so these days are called Pitri Parksha. Ancestors (Pitri) are taken as the center of God and the ancestral homage (Pitrikarma) is taken as the center of the eternal rites.

१६ दिनको पितृ पक्षको समापन भएको छ । आजको दिनलाई सर्व पितृ औँसी पनि भनिन्छ । यसरी पूर्णिमाबाट सुरु भएको पितृ पक्ष ठ्याक्कै औँसीमा आएर समापन हुन्छ । १६ दिनको पितृ पक्षमा आफ्नो पितृको मृत्यु तिथिमा पारी हिन्दु धर्मावलम्बीहरूले पितृ कर्म अर्थात् श्राद्ध गरिसकेका छन् ।

प्राकृतिक प्रकोपसँग हामी जुध्न सक्दैनौ, हामीले केवल पूर्व तयारी तथा सतर्कता अपनाएर हुनसक्ने हानी न्यूनीकरण मात्र गर्न सक्दछौँ, हैन र ? सन् १९८९ को राष्ट्र सङ्घको साधारण सभाले प्राकृतिक विपत्ति विरुद्ध पूर्व तयारी र जागरणको अभिबृद्धिकालागि यस दिवसको सुरुवात गरिएको हो र आज पनि यस दिनमा विभिन्न सञ्चार माध्यमहरूले विश्वभर यस विषयमा प्रभावकारी ज्ञान, सीप र धारणाको प्रवाह गर्दछन् ।

Triodashi is called Pradosh. Like Ekadashi, Pradosh is important every month, Vishnu is remembered in Ekadashi, and Shiva is remembered in Pradosh. Pradosh begins 45 minutes before sunset and ends 45 minutes after sunset.

प्रदोष भनेको के हो ? त्रयोदशीलाई प्रदोष भनिन्छ । एकादशीमा विष्णुलाई स्मरण गरिन्छ भने प्रदोषमा शिवको स्मरण गरिन्छ । प्रदोष काल सूर्यास्त हुनुभन्दा ४५ मिनेट अगाडि सुरु हुन्छ र सूर्यास्तको ४५ मिनेटपछि समाप्त हुन्छ। प्रदोष कथा चन्द्रमाको क्षय हुने रोग अर्थात् चन्द्रमाको प्रभाव कम हुँदै जाने अवस्थामा भगवान् शिवले त्रयोदशीका दिन चन्द्रमाको रोग निवारण गरिदिनुभएको शास्त्रमा उल्लेख छ ।

The eleventh day of the calendar is called Ekadashi. After the full moon and after the new moon, Ekadashi comes twice a month. The Ekadashi after the full moon is called Krishna Paksha Ekadashi and the Ekadashi after Aunsi is called Shukla Paksha Ekadashi. The Ekadashi of Asoj Krishnapaksha is called Indira Ekadashi and welcome to the Indira Ekadashi for this year.
