World Day for Safety and Health at Work Special Audio

Background of The World Day for Safety and Health at Work
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed annually on April 28th. The day is dedicated to promoting the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases globally. It is an international campaign led by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to raise awareness of the importance of workplace safety and health. The World Day for Safety and Health at Work is an opportunity to reflect on the importance of protecting workers and creating safe and healthy work environments. The day is also a time to recognize the significant number of people who are affected by work-related accidents and illnesses each year.

In June 2022, the International Labour Conference (ILC) decided to include “a safe and healthy working environment” in the ILO’s framework of fundamental principles and rights at work.

On 28 April 2024, the theme for this day is “Impacts of climate change on occupational safety and health”. In 2024, the ILO will launch a new report "Ensuring Safety and Health at Work in a Changing Climate", which reveals alarming new data on the impact of climate change on workers' safety and health.

the ILO will celebrate this decision, bringing together experts and constituents to discuss the implications it has for the world of work, as well as how to practically implement this right in the world of work. It will also serve to present the findings of research on the implementation status of various provisions of the fundamental Conventions No. 155 and No. 187.

Theme 2024:
This year's theme is “Impacts of Climate Change on Occupational safety and Health”.

The rationale of the day:
On this day, various activities are organized by governments, employers, workers' organizations, and safety groups to promote the prevention of accidents and injuries in the workplace. These activities may include safety training sessions, workshops, seminars, conferences, and workplace safety campaigns.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work aims to raise awareness of the need for safe and healthy working conditions for all workers worldwide. It calls on employers, workers, and governments to work together to create safe workplaces and prevent accidents and injuries. The ultimate goal is to promote the safety and health of workers, improve productivity, and reduce the human and economic costs of workplace accidents and illnesses.
