Kathmandu's Market Area Marred by Disorganized Telephone, Internet, and Electricity Wires

Kathmandu. Kathmandu's market area has become unsightly due to disorganized telephone, internet, and electricity wires. The problem of disorganized wires within the city has increased due to unplanned infrastructure expansion, lack of coordination among service providers, old and unused wires not being removed on time, limited pole capacity, and lack of underground infrastructure.

The Nepal Telecommunications Authority had initiated a plan in the last week of Jestha to manage telephone and internet wires on six main routes in Kathmandu within 15 days. In a joint meeting in the last week of Ashad, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Dr. Bikram Timilsina and Minister of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Birajbhat Shrestha had instructed the Authority to work towards managing all wires by the 15th of Shrawan.
