Former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Arrested in Ayotzinapa Case

Kathmandu. Former governor of Guerrero state, Ángel Aguirre, has been arrested on charges of hiding evidence and obstructing the investigation in the sensational Ayotzinapa case of 43 students who disappeared in Mexico in 2014. This incident is considered one of the most symbolic of Mexico's corruption, impunity, and forced disappearances.

According to Prosecutor General Ernestina Godoy, Aguirre had instructed to hide evidence related to the incident with the involvement of government employees and high-level state officials. He stated that this act was not a personal decision but part of a planned cover-up campaign operated at the state executive level.
