Indian Council of Agricultural Research Develops First Fully Sequenced Pigeon Pea Genome

New Delhi. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Tuesday announced the development of India's first fully sequenced Telomere-to-Telomere (T-to-T) reference genome of the pigeon pea variety 'Asha'.
The newly developed genome sequence contains 752.65 million base pairs. These base pairs have been arranged into 92 contigs. ICAR stated that this represents the complete genome of all 11 chromosomes of pigeon pea. This genome data, named NIPB CCTUTU 4, has been placed in the global database (NCBI).
