Nepal is one of the world's most climate-vulnerable countries, with nearly 80 per cent of its population exposed to climate-and disaster-related hazards. Increasing floods, glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs), landslides, forest fires, droughts, and erratic rainfall are causing loss of lives, damaging infrastructure, disrupting livelihoods, and threatening food and water security. Between 2016 and 2025, disasters claimed around 5,000 lives and injured over 15,000 people, while more than 32,000 climate-induced events between 2018 and 2024 caused losses exceeding Rs. 23.6 billion.
