Online Fraud Cases Rise in Myagdi, Victims Lose Millions

"After sending the money via QR, when I inquired with my relatives by phone, I found out that someone else had asked for money by hacking Facebook," he said. "The money sent in haste without confirming the message on social media was lost."

Sandesh Roka (name changed) of Annapurna Rural Municipality sent Rs 200,000 via 'QR' to buy an 'iPhone' based on what he saw on social media. "After sending the money, the contact number in the advertisement was switched off, and the 'page was deactivated'," he said. "The money I had was gone, and the ठग (thug) shattered my dream of using an iPhone."
