Old Leadership Re-emerges in Nepali Politics Amidst Post-Jengji Movement Dynamics

Kathmandu. As the Jengji movement approaches its first anniversary, the old leadership has once again become active in Nepal's politics.

Against corruption and misrule, on August 23 last year, the 'Jengji' youth group organized a peaceful protest, which was brutally suppressed by the then government led by KP Sharma Oli, resulting in the deaths of 23 people. Enraged by the killing of the youth, the protestors set fire to and destroyed government and private properties, including the central administrative building Singha Durbar, the Parliament building, and the Supreme Court.
