Bucharest. Europe has been experiencing extreme heat for a long time. Due to the heat, Romania has completely shut down its only nuclear power plant as the water level in the Danube River has decreased abnormally. When the water flow in the river decreases, there is not enough water available to cool the nuclear reactor.
In such a situation, both reactors of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant have been shut down. These two reactors accounted for about 20 percent of Romania's total electricity production.
