Institutional Trust Vital For Functional System

The crucial aspect of modern life is institutional complexity built on rationality, reciprocity and trust. Institutions are formal and informal norms, organisations and rules of the political game. They define the framework for peaceful human interactions, yielding social and economic benefits. They make human coexistence less taxing. Stable institutions organise society, regulate people’s lives and shape predictable human conduct. Their consistency in role, durability and autonomy can set democratic constraints on actors’ fiercely competitive instincts. Institutions shape the processes of policy, coalition building, bargaining, negotiation, electoral preferences, and coordination between the administration and the public. The crisis of trust between political leadership and administration in Nepal is faltering the performance of both.
