Taliban's Five-Year Reign: Expanding Restrictions on Afghan Women's Lives

The closure of school and university doors, loss of employment opportunities, mandatory male companionship for long-distance travel, restrictions in public places, and the halt on education producing female healthcare workers have deeply affected the daily lives of Afghan women.

Conversations with women and girls in various parts of Afghanistan, as reported by various news sources, agencies, and research, reflect the changes in their lives after the Taliban regime. Women from diverse backgrounds, including students, artisans, former journalists, and housewives, have spoken about the opportunities, freedoms, and hopes for the future they have lost since the Taliban came to power. Due to fear of retaliation, many women have refused to reveal their real names.
