Police Visit Durga Prasai's Home Amidst Microfinance Protests

Kathmandu. Police have reached the house of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Save Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizens Campaign and a medical businessman, in Nikosera, Bhaktapur. A team from Nepal Police reached Prasai's residence based on information that Prasai would participate in the protest of microfinance and cooperative victims. Police sources said that the police reached there to stop Prasai at his home, assessing that he might incite the situation by participating in the protest. 'Police have taken precautionary measures so that an unpleasant situation does not arise,' the source said.
Microfinance and cooperative victims have arrived in Kathmandu after walking for 23 days from various districts of Madhesh, under the leadership of the Save Nation, Nationality, Religion, Culture and Citizens Campaign. They staged a sit-in protest by sleeping on the road in front of the National Human Rights Commission on Friday night. They spent the night on the road in front of the Commission's gate, maintaining their stance of not leaving the protest site until their demands are met and no one from the government comes for talks. They are urging the government to address their demands.
