Kathmandu. Amidst a severe shortage of LP gas for cooking, Nepal Oil Corporation has started selling and distributing gas from five locations in Kathmandu. In coordination with the Kathmandu District Administration Office, the Oil Corporation began distribution through five gas industries and depots from Saturday. The designated locations for gas distribution are the Nepal Oil Corporation premises in Teku, the Transport Office premises in Chabahil, Kirtipur, the Radhaswami premises in Basundhara, and the old District Administration Office premises in Babar Mahal. The corporation has stated that different brands of gas are available at the sales centers. A crowd of general public has been observed at the locations designated by the corporation since early morning to collect gas. According to Nepal Oil Corporation employee Bhim Prasad Poudel, more than one thousand consumers have arrived to collect gas at the Babar Mahal distribution center alone. The plan is to distribute gas from 10 AM to 6 PM. Poudel informed that consumers from any area of Kathmandu can collect gas from the Babar Mahal center, where approximately 10 types of gas cylinders are available. Considering the current gas crisis, the corporation has facilitated gas distribution in coordination with the depots, he said. Poudel stated that monitoring has been intensified against the black marketing and unnecessary hoarding of gas. He clarified that monitoring is being carried out to bring those who hide gas, hoard it unnecessarily, and engage in black marketing within the legal framework. Despite the corporation distributing gas from various locations, the general public has complained about not being able to get gas easily. Service recipients queuing at Babar Mahal have stated that they could not get gas even after waiting for a long time. Consumers said that even though their turn came after waiting in line, they were forced to wait as the gas ran out at the distribution point, and they waited all day in the hope of its arrival. The corporation has urged consumers who are in urgent need to come to the designated distribution centers and times to purchase gas. Arrangements have been made requiring consumers to bring their identification cards compulsorily when coming to collect gas.
