Biratnagar. Sapana Pariyar (Commander Sandhya), who dreamed of being in the role of 'Commander' during Maoist's 10-year armed struggle, has now reached the important level of policy-making in the Koshi Province government from today. Born on February 22, 2042, in Itahari-5, Sunsari, Sapana's journey to this point was not easy. Raised by her single mother, Naramaya Hingmang, after the death of her father Tekbahadur Hingmang, she experienced deprivation and discrimination closely from a young age. The same daughter, raised by her mother working as a daily wage laborer, has now reached the position of State Minister for Physical Infrastructure Development. Sapana's political journey began in 2056 BS with a Maoist-affiliated cultural troupe. Driven by a dream of change at a young age, she became a 'full-timer' party worker in 2057 BS. During the difficult times of the Maoist insurgency, she efficiently served in various roles, including Joint Secretary of All Nepal Women's Association (Revolutionary) Morang-Sunsari, Chairperson of Sunsari District, and Central Secretariat Member. She was not limited to the plains of Terai but also worked tirelessly to expand the organization in the hilly district of Panchthar. Her popularity and capability within the party were also measured in the Sunsari district member election, where she received the highest votes among her competitors, becoming first. After serving as District Treasurer, she received the responsibility of Central Committee Member from the youth and Dalit quota below 40 years of age at the party's Eighth General Convention. Although she became a candidate in the 2070 Constituent Assembly election and the 2075 House of Representatives election, Sapana could not win. However, she continued to mature her experience in parliamentary politics. Since the 2079 election, Sapana Pariyar, a proportional representative in the Koshi Provincial Assembly, is known as a strong and active parliamentarian. Although she appears small in stature and has a simple demeanor, her presentation on the parliament's rostrum was very sharp and logical. She spoke strongly on issues concerning Dalits, women, marginalized, and impoverished communities. Her speeches in the Provincial Assembly on budget, bills, and contemporary issues gave her the identity of a studious parliamentarian. She never missed participating in the theoretical and clause-wise discussions on bills. She also contributed to the post-conflict peace process by serving as the coordinator of the Local Peace Committee Sunsari. Interested in agriculture, she has also studied and observed agricultural systems in Kerala, India. Sapana Pariyar, who became a Member of Parliament from the proportional list of the CPN (Maoist Centre) in the 2079 elections, is currently in charge of Physical Infrastructure Development as a State Minister. Her journey from a common Dalit family and being raised by a single mother to becoming a state minister has become a source of inspiration for many. For Sapana, who roared in parliament for the rights of the marginalized, there is now both a great opportunity and challenge to change the lives of grassroots people by being in the executive branch.
