Lalitpur Matsyandranath Ratha Yatra begins

Lalitpur Matsyandranath Ratha Yatra begins
This year's Matsyanath Jatra has started. The longest Jatra of this valley, which starts from Baishakh Shukla Pratipada today, is celebrated for about two months till Shukla Chauthi of Asar.

Contemporary deity Machhindranath, also known as Matsyanath, Guru Karunamay, and Bung Dhya in Newa language.
For more than 1600 years, this ancient pilgrimage has been celebrated with equal fervor, devotion, and holiness.

Matsyanath as a yogi
The ancient village of Bungamati is considered to be the birthplace of Matsyanath. Matsyanath is a perfect man who can control all the elements of nature. These contemporary deities have been worshiped by the people of the valley for thousands of years as deities of rain. There are many forms of Matsyanarayana in the Bagmati civilization.

What is done today?
Today, the spirit of the deity in the urn is replaced in the earthen idol of Karunamayi made of Mhepi hill's soil. Today, the idol of the holy Karunamayi is bathed and rested on the day of Akshay Tritiya with goudaan. After this, the chariot of Avalokeshwar is circulated for 2 months in different places of Lalitpur and Kathmandu.

Yogi Matsyanarayana's grace has been in the world for thousands of years. Matyasnarayan's rath yatra has started today.
Let there be no shortage of rain, let there be strength in the grains of grain, let there be the welfare of the world, let there be life in the creatures.

Hamro Patro - Connecting Nepali Communities
Hamro Patro is one of the first Nepali app to include Nepali Patro, launched in 2010. We started with a Nepali Calendar mobile app to help Nepalese living abroad stay in touch with Nepalese festivals and important dates in Nepali calendar year. Later on, to cater to the people who couldn’t type in Nepali using fonts like Preeti, Ganesh and even Nepali Unicode, we built nepali mobile keyboard called Hamro Nepali keyboard.
