In March 2023, the United Nations Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect (OSAPG) and UNESCO co-published the first policy guidance of its kind titled Addressing Hate Speech through Education: a guide for policy-makers. As part of follow-up regional dialogues, UNESCO is supporting policy-makers, educational stakeholders and youth leaders throughout South Asia to come together in Kathmandu, Nepal to further discuss and disseminate the principles exposed in this new policy guide.
With a view to the above and to commemorate the International Day for Countering Hate Speech (18 June 2023), a Sub-Regional launch event of the Policy Guide will be organized by UNESCO, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the UN Resident Coordinator Office and the UN Information Centre, with the aim to explore further the root causes of hate speech and promote global citizenship education and digital citizenship based on human rights.
Participants include government representatives, educators, subject-matter experts, journalists, academia, digital platforms, and civil society organizations.
In this regard, UNESCO invites you to join the Sub-Regional Launch to be held in Kathmandu on 20 June 2023 virtually.
The event will be broadcasted LIVE on UNESCO Facebook page.
Also you can join via Zoom directly.
